Blinking, I sat up and took a quick inventory. I was in a massive canopy bed. I was whole, if aching from ass to elbows. I was alone, and once again I was naked.
In fact, I was more naked than I had been for some time. I reached up, touched my throat—my strangely bare throat—and swallowed. Along with my glasses, Aedar’s collar was gone. Something else had gone as well; an absence itched at me. Sitting here in this strange new bed, still shedding the last moments of sleep, I took a while to understand what was missing: Aedar’s presence in my mind. Jason has settled into his strange life on the world of Skoria as the beloved pet and telepathically bonded lover of Captain Aedar Rictus, a cyborg pirate. Being the world's only human makes him a hot commodity, though, and when a local lawman sees his chance, he seizes Jason from Aedar's protection, intending to put him up for sale.
Jason wants nothing more than to escape and make his way back to Aedar, so when one of the lawman's slaves--the gorgeous, catlike Snow--offers him a way out, he jumps on the chance. Snow soon proves to be more than he seems: someone who has lost his own name, a friend in a hostile world…and, possibly, a link in the telepathic chain that binds Jason to Aedar. |
